Another sports mega-event: Chile will host the 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships

In a historic milestone, Chile will host this international competition for the first time.

Chile has only received great sporting news this week. Yesterday it was confirmed that Chile will host the 2027 Special Olympics World Games, and today it was announced that we will be home to the 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

This is historic sporting news, as it is the first time that Chile has organized an event of this type. It has come about thanks to the sports infrastructure inherited from Santiago 2023, in particular, the Peñalolén Velodrome, where the competition will take place.

“It is an honor for us to be able to host this prestigious event. The Peñalolén Velodrome infrastructure, together with Chile’s experience in organizing large-scale sports events, allows us to look to the future with great optimism,” stated Sports Minister Jaime Pizarro.

The 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships will be the 122nd edition of the event, which began in 1893. With this, Chile joins a handful of countries in our region that have organized this competition throughout its history, including Colombia, Venezuela and Uruguay.

Chile, epicenter of world sports events

Without a doubt, Chile has become the epicenter of some of the most important sports events in recent years.

In a short time, we have held the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the most important in our sporting history, the Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup and the South American School Games.

They will be joined by the 2025 U-20 Men’s Football World Cup, the 2027 Special Olympics World Championship and now the 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
